Coming soon: new feature documentary ‘Anatomy of a protest’ (working title)

Anatomy of a Protest (working title) tells the story of the unprecedented protest movement that rocked Sri Lanka during 2022. The film captures the vivid colours and chaos of the once all encompassing anti-government protests, but also its bloody aftermath.  The camera weaves in and out of the surging crowds at the main protest site, “Gota-Go-Gama”. The optimism of the protests is countered with verité footage of government crackdown and egregious violations of constitutionally protected rights of peaceful assembly, protest and freedom of speech. The film uses compelling archive, captures the unfolding journeys of four central characters, explores the nature of emergent protest movements in the face of State oppression through young thinkers, and follows the wider arc of the fall — and what is expected — the rise (again) of the Rajapaksa dynasty.
