Kannan Arunasalam is an artist, filmmaker and researcher whose work explores memory, landscape and the afterlives of conflict and colonialism through documentary cinema and moving-image installation. Through sustained observation, duration and repetition, his work examines how histories of conflict and state power continue to inhabit contemporary landscapes and everyday life. Attentive to the ordinary, it explores how political memory settles into place and how meaning accumulates through time.

Working across film, installation and research, his projects have been presented in galleries, cinemas and academic contexts internationally, bringing together observational filmmaking and contemporary moving-image practice.
